This pretty Turkish town is nestled around the sparkling, turquoise waters of the Bay of Fethiye, dotted with a host of small islands which can be explored by boat. The Tourus Mountain chain provides a spectacular backdrop to the town, with the surrounding countryside adorned with pine forests, olives, laurels and acacias. Fethiye was built on the ancient site of Telmessos - the remains of Lycian rock tombs can still be seen and the Roman theatre is now used as an impressive venue for outdoor summer concerts.
