Carvoeiro is a friendly family-orientated resort popular with those seeking a relaxing villa holiday in the sun. The small beach is in a bay sheltered by cliffs which is very popular in peak season and has great facilities. If you seek a little more privacy, boat-trips are offered along the coast, where you can find many intimate sandy coves and bays.

The resort has blossomed in recent years, but was originally a small fishing village, and has managed to retain much of its charm. The colourful fishing boats still line the beach, and locally caught fish is available in the restaurants nearby. Numerous resort restaurants offer a variety of delicious fare, from traditional Portuguese cuisine to Indian, Chinese or Italian. Nightlife is easy going: there are a couple of clubs and sports bars which provide entertainment late into the night.

Families prefer the relative quiet of the town, and find the wealth of facilities in easy reach very convenient. Golfers are well served by the several good courses nearby. Other activities available are tennis, walking, horse-riding, and deep sea fishing. For the children there are two water parks in the area. Couples enjoy the lively restaurants and bars.

Villas to go recommended beaches near Carvoeiro…

Marinha - A long sandy beach backed by cliffs that is often overlooked as there is very little development nearby. Busier on Sundays when the Portuguese arrive but during the week it’s usually very quiet. There’s a beach bar during high season.

Benagil - A small beach in a fishing village. A wider beach further along is hidden in the cliffs.

Meia Praia - Travel further west along the coast to one of the longest stretches of beach in the Algarve, with 4 kilometres of fine white sand that spreads as far as Alvôr. Many beach bars and restaurants. Good for surfing, but take care as there are currents.

Vale do Milho – A friendly par-3 course with 9 holes close to Carvoiro. A good practice course for beginners, and being only 926m long, perfect for good players to improve their short game. There are a number of bunkers and water hazards to keep experienced players interested.

Silves – Surrounded by fruit orchards, this course is designed to test a player’s quality, demonstrated instantly at the first hole where water hazards flank the fairway. Designed for attacking play and accuracy. 5km north of Carvoeiro.

Pinta – near Carvoeiro, the course is decorated with almond and carob trees, and the course is set among olive trees which are reputed to be 1500 years old. Watch out for the 10th which has a large bunker, or the 13th which is 541m long.

Gramacho – An undulating course set amongst olive, almond and carob trees. To play this course you need to be technically accurate!

Take time to go…

Explore the pottery shops along the N125, and take home some colourful ceramics, or visit your local market and choose from good quality leather goods, pottery, decorated tiles, crystal, copperware and embroidered tablecloths.

Settle on the terrace of a traditional restaurant enjoy a white port or a Vinho Verde (Green wine) and watch the sun go down.

Discover the largest open air water park in Europe. Take the children to Aqualand and has over 1500m of slides. Try the almost vertical Banzai Boggan or the fast pace of the Kamikaze. For the little ones, explore the Rainbow Park. (Alcantarilha, 25min drive)
